April Showers Bring ….. Awesome Massage Classes to Holistic Massage School

This May, Healing Hands School of Holistic Health is offering several awesome classes in the Holistic Healing Arts.

Hot Stone Massage – Instructor Jeni Bingle

Classes begin May 2nd and run through May 19th.

Hot Stone Massage is one of the most frequently requested massages at Day Spas and Massage Clinics. In this course, students learn how to perform a full-body Hot Stone massage using smooth, heated stones.  The stones are used as an extension of their own hands to soothe and heal sore muscles. Students learn the protocol for heating, sanitizing, and prepping the stones for repeated use. They’ll explore how to use different sized stones and the edges of stones to affect change in the body.

Myofacial Release – Instructor Michael Tenenberg

Classes begin May 6th and run through July 6th.

In this class, students learn about myofascial tissue. It is this tissue that connects your muscles, joints, bones, and keeps organs in place. Students learn how to analyze a client’s posture and gait to identify areas where myofascial tissue is tight and restricts movement. They learn to customize treatment plans to release trigger points and adhesions that, if left untreated, can lead to widespread pain and discomfort.

Circulatory Massage (Night Class) – Instructor Dan Martin

Classes begin May 7th and run through July 31st.

It is an introductory massage course and a pre-requisite for the Massage Therapist and Holistic Health Practitioner Programs. It introduces Students to the bones and muscles of the body. They learn a variety of massage strokes and techniques to relax, release and soothe sore muscles. Special focus is given to proper body mechanics, draping, client communications, empathy, and professionalism.  Accordingly, by the end of the course students will be able to confidently deliver a full-body Swedish massage while adhering to all professional standards of conduct.

TuiNa – (Acupressure) – Instructor Raina Colvin

Classes begin May 12th and run through July 10th.

A massage modality based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, TuiNa involves stimulating acupressure points to affect the balance of energy in the body.  The instructor uses lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice to help students learn. Students learn how to identify and manipulate acupressure points along the channels (meridians) of the body.  They learn to master oscillating techniques to increase energy as well as traditional press and pull techniques characteristic of the technique. A powerful modality, TuiNa treatments can address energy blockages that create chronic pain, illness, and common disorders of the joints and spine.

Lomi Lomi – Hawaiian Massage – Instructor Keoni Salgado

Classes begin May 23rd and run through June 30th.

Lomi Lomi massage is an energetic healing modality taught in Hawaiian Temples for generations.  It is based on the ancient Hawaiian concept of working with the life force of an individual to promote holistic healing. The intention of this massage is to calm the mind, to heal the body. Students are encouraged to release all ego, prejudice, and judgement of the recipient.  They learn to give the traditional, full body Lomi Lomi massage as well as advanced strokes and techniques. They are taught to engage with a ‘thoughtful intention’, which is to heal and enhance well-being. Accordingly, they often begin the session with a prayer then combine passive joint manipulations, and a series of rhythmic, flowing strokes to achieve optimal relaxation and impact.

Passive Joint Movement (PJM)– Instructor John Economus

Classes begin May 26th and run through June 27th.

This class focuses on getting the most efficient use of the neuromuscular system. It introduces students to the powerful use of psychophysical integration techniques. (Psychophysical relates to the relationship between one’s internal (psychic) and external (physical) worlds.) These integration techniques include rocking, oscillations, joint manipulations, supported movements and guided physical exercises. Students learn to use gentle manipulation of joints to explore where there is pain and limited mobility. They learn protocols to address these imbalances. Benefits of treatment include a physical sense of lightness, ease of motion, and enhanced psychological wellbeing.
