Trigger Points, or muscle “knots” found in taut muscles of the body, are believed to be a primary cause of myofascial (muscle and surrounding tissue) pain. Trigger Point therapy is a physiologically-based, proven bodywork modality that releases trigger points and relieves the multitude of pain symptoms they create. This course explores the many causes of trigger points which include; trauma, job-related repetitive use, strain injuries, inactivity and over- use. Through instruction, demonstration and guided hands-on practice the student learns how to search for, reveal and identify Trigger Points in their own body as well as that of a client. They will learn and practice proven techniques to release trigger points, relieve the pain, stiffness and dysfunction they create; and restore normal function to a muscle or group of muscles. Trigger point therapy also provides the student with an excellent self- care modality to assure a long, pain-free career in massage therapy.
