"Ayurveda" which means "Science of Life" in Sanskrit, is an ancient self-care healing system developed over 5,000 years ago. It is considered the "mother of all healing". This course is an introduction to Ayurvedic principles and practices. It includes an overall view of Ayurvedic healing and Panchakarma including hands-on instruction of three different bodywork modalities based on the Ayurvedic constitutional types or Doshas: Abhyanga, Vishesh and Udvartana massages. Students will become familiar with the three Doshas ( distinct combinations of physical, mental and emotional characteristics : Vata, Pitta and Kapha ), three qualities of mind ( Sattva, Rajas and Tamas ), and three qualities of energy ( Prana, Tejas and Ojas ). In addition, they will learn hands-on the "marmas" ( pressure points ), Shirodhara ( "thread of oil on the forehead" ) and Indian Head Massage. These practices restore balance, boost immunity and enhance the quality and duration of life for themselves and their clients."

Notes: Please bring: 2 sets of massage sheets. Last two classes end at 9pm
