Holistic Massage School Offers ‘Lomi Lomi’ – Ancient Hawaiian Massage

Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian Massage) is a form of body work that originated thousands of years ago in Old Polynesia.” said Harmony Morgan, Director for Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (Healing Hands) – Laguna Hills.  “While there are many forms, the one taught in this course, ‘Lomi Ka Ala Hoku,’ was developed by Kahunas (Master Healers) as a ‘Rite of Passage’ ceremony”, she added.

The English translation for Lomi Ka Ala Hoku, is “Massage Journey to the Stars”. It is based on a Martial Art form called ‘Lua’. Ideally a session is performed in ‘sacred space’ accompanied by traditional Hawaiian music. The intention of the massage is to facilitate a state of ‘Pono Pono’, which means ‘Conflict free and aligned with the divine’.

Healing Hands’ 60-hour ‘Lomi Lomi’ course will be taught at Laguna Hills by Staff Instructor Keoni Salgado. Classes start on May 23rd and run through June 30th. They will be held on Sundays from 10am- 4pm & Thursday evenings from 6pm – 10pm.  Registration deadline May 13th.

In Healing Hands Lomi Lomi course, students learn how to give the traditional, full-body massage. In addition to using their hands, students learn to use their forearms, fists, and elbows to perform a variety of therapeutic strokes and techniques.

An important aspect of this modality is the practice of ‘pule’ or ‘pray-full intention’. Pule requires Students to release all prejudice and judgement before working with a client.  They learn to accept each client’s individuality and keep their intention pure, to facilitate healing and renewal.

In a Lomi Lomi session, the Practitioner maneuvers around the table applying smooth, rhythmic, strokes to various parts of the body. Though Lomi Lomi uses a finite number of body-work strokes, each massage is customized by the practitioner based on the clients’ needs.

While some recipients of Lomi Lomi report feeling a deep sense of calm and peace following their Massage, others describe it as being emotionally profound.  In all cases, however, the recipients report that the experience opened their hearts, and enhanced feelings of love, connection, and well-being.
