Massage therapy offers a number of health benefits, both physical and mental. So it’s no surprise why people from all walks of life enjoy booking a session on the table. Not only can it alleviate physical aches and pains, but it can also help them relax and unwind.
If you’ve always wanted to be in the healthcare industry but couldn’t do it for whatever reason, then becoming a massage therapist is a great alternative.
Is a massage career worth it though? We certainly think so!
Read on to find out everything you need to know about this life path.
There’s Good Pay
In May 2021, the median annual wage for massage therapists was $46,910, which works out to $22.55 per hour.
With enough time and experience, you’ll be able to earn significantly more than that, which will provide a great nest egg for your future. The earning potential here is much more promising than in other fields.
The Job Security Is Great
Not only is there good pay, but there’s great job security as well. In 2020, there were 144,600 jobs available.
Also, the job outlook for 2020 to 2030 is 32% growth. When compared to other occupations, this is much faster!
It Doesn’t Take Long to Get Certified
You’ll need a massage therapist certification to work as a professional. However, it’s a relatively fast process, so switching career paths won’t take long.
You’ll need to enroll in a massage therapy program that has 500 hours (or more) of study and experience. In California, a minimum of 100 hours needs to be in anatomy and physiology, contraindications, health and hygiene, and business and ethics.
While there are full-time programs, you can also enroll in part-time ones if you’ve got obligations you can’t drop. This flexibility allows you to still get your certification and switch careers without much delay.
You’ll Have a Flexible Work Schedule
Speaking of flexibility, once you get your certification, you don’t necessarily have to work a 9-to-5 job if you don’t want to. You can opt to work in a medical clinic, but you can also work out of your own home, make house calls, or visit corporate offices for regular appointments.
When you can make your own hours, you’ll have a better work-life balance. You’ll be able to spend more time with your loved ones.
It’s a Low-Stress Field
If you’re stressed out, how can you help your clients relax?
As a massage therapist, your workplace environment will be calm and serene. When you’re in your appointments, it’ll be quiet; even if your clients want to talk with you, it’ll be in a soft and tranquil way.
At the end of the day, you’ll be just as relaxed as your clients are!
