Reflexology is a form of touch therapy that involves stimulation of various pressure points on the feet, hands, or ears to promote healing and optimal health. The goal of reflexology is to remove energy blockages in our body’s system, increasing circulation and re-establishing homeostasis (a state of balance within the body/mind). It can be used as an integrative therapy, stand-alone therapy, and as an effective technique to soothe anxious clients.
An effective integrative therapy that goes well with any massage modality, today’s Reflexology treatments are gaining popularity as a deeply relaxing and therapeutic modality. It is highly suggested for individuals suffering from anxiety, stress, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, Plantar Fasciitis, and many other common ailments. By including Reflexology as a tool for their massage practice, Healing Hands’ students can positively affect their clients’ circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, immune, and neuropeptide systems of the body.
The reflexology course at Healing Hand is taught by Staff Instructor Denise Fultz, who combines lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice to familiarize students with reflex points and techniques for their manipulation.
“Remembering the exact location of reflex points has always been the biggest challenge for Reflexology students,” said Denise. Toward that end, co-faculty member Raina Colvin and I developed a Reflexology Chart for students to use as a quick reference. The unique, hand-painted chart includes a stand-up design, shows the underlay of bones in the foot, and displays the orientation of the feet and hands as they would appear during a treatment.
