On Saturday, September 21, Massage Therapy students from Healing Hands School of Holistic Health, participated in the 2019 ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk in San Diego. The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series is the premier program of ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer, a nonprofit organization to end prostate cancer.
The event took place at De Anza Cove Park, and featured a Kids’ Superhero Dash for Dad, a 1-mile walk, a 5K run/walk, and virtual Snooze for Dudes program! In addition, a post-race celebration was held to award Run/walk participants with free T-shirts, food, prizes, and the opportunity to connect with other men and families impacted by prostate cancer.
“The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk provides survivors with opportunities to come together, raise funds and share hope and community”, said Chris Morgan, Instructor for the Advanced Circulatory and Sports Massage course offered at Healing Hands. “Healing Hands students have been volunteering to provide therapeutic massage to participants at special events from San Diego to LA for nearly three decades. These include the LA Marathon, “Stand-Down” events for Veterans, the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon, and others. It’s a wonderful experience for students who gain experience while positively impacting the lives of men still fighting the disease. We were honored to be part of such a worthy cause and hope to participate again next year”, he added.
The funds raised from the 2019 ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk – San Diego pay for on-going research, free prostate cancer testing, and to educate men and their families about prostate cancer. To date, the organization has helped over 10,000+ men remain alive due to reduced prostate cancer mortality rates. The 150,000+ participants of these Run/Walk events have helped inspire hope and raised more than $20 Million dollars for lifesaving treatments and education.
