“For more than 35 years, thousands of Practitioners world-wide have demonstrated Craniosacral Therapy’s (CST) effectiveness, making it a highly respected integrative therapy today”, said Harmony Morgan, Director for Healing Hands School of Holistic Health – Laguna Hills.   “Clinical applications for CST include a wide range of musculoskeletal, developmental, and neurological issues, making it a ‘must-have’ course for Students.  Craniosacral Therapy will be taught at both our Laguna Hills and Kearny Mesa classrooms this Summer, so I’m reminding all interested students to register early to ensure their spot,” she added.

CST was developed in the 1970s by Dr. John Upledger, as a form of cranial osteopathy.  Today, it is an integrative treatment used by Osteopaths, Chiropractors, and Massage Practitioners to treat a variety of conditions and diseases.  CST involves using a gentle touch to manipulate the joints in the skull, parts of the pelvis, and the spine. It has been found to help with anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorders. CST also helps relieve chronic headaches, neck and back pain, and central nervous system disorders.  More recently it has been used to facilitate healing for clients with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, putting Massage Practitioners familiar with this work in high demand.

CST is safe for use on just about anyone, including infants, children and the elderly.  Accordingly, it is effective when used in conjunction with other body-work modalities or, as a stand-alone therapy.  Although soft and gentle in its application, the effects of CST on the mind and body are reported to be deep and profound.

In a typical treatment, Practitioners use a gentle touch to move joints, including the cranial sutures at the top of the head, to affect subtle changes in intracranial pressure. The massage student learns to apply no greater than 5 grams of pressure to induce deep relaxation.  Craniosacral therapists are taught to maintain a neutral intention when practicing this therapy in order to promote self-healing.

Healing HandsCST course will be taught at the Laguna Hills classroom on Saturdays from 9 am to 4:30 pm, starting June 29th and ending on July 20th.  In Kearny Mesa, the class will be taught on Sundays from 9:30 am to 5 pm starting September 8th and wrapping up on September 29th.

In this 30- hour CST course, Students will learn how to use traditional techniques to realign the soft tissues surrounding the cranial-sacral mechanism.  They’ll be encouraged to tune in to the natural rhythms of the cerebro-spinal fluid and learn how this fluid protects the brain and spinal cord. The aim of CST is to re-establish balance and re-store the client’s innate healing powers.
