As healers, our work is dedicated to relieving clients from pain and discomfort. But if we ourselves are not healthy and free of pain, our career will suffer. Implementing self-care into your daily routine as a massage therapist is crucial, as it provides support for your mind, body and soul to thrive throughout the day.
After working with several clients a day, often times, our own health can be pushed to the side. At Healing Hands, it is important for our students to learn how they can create a career path that is long-lasting and ample. Students in Laguna Hills, Escondido and Kearny Mesa all learn ways in which they can nurture their emotional and physical health to provide the best healing experience for their clients.
As we heal others, it is important to ensure that we ourselves are not in pain.
Incorporate these self-care tips into your daily routine:
Stay Hydrated
The work of a massage therapist requires us to be on our feet and moving a majority of the time. It’s crucial to drink plenty of fluids to maintain and replenish water levels. This plays a role in proper muscle function, joint and brain protection, immune health, digestion and your mood.
Get Massages Yourself
It’s important to practice what you preach and get massages yourself. Massage therapists know the benefits of getting a good massage more than anyone. If you can’t find time to book your own appointment, implement self-massage into your day to relieve muscle tension.
Meditate Daily
Meditation is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and improve your focus. Getting into the habit of spending as little as 10 minutes a day can help in processing overwhelming emotions and bring more self-awareness into your healing sessions. At Healing Hands, we offer courses that incorporate meditation, such as Breathwork and Conscious Breathing.
Make Time For Breaks In Between Appointments
While having a busy schedule full of clients is great for business, overbooking appointments is not good for your personal health. Having no downtime in between often leads to stress and fatigue. Leave enough time after appointments to take a quiet break, go on a walk or eat a healthy snack to help you feel refreshed and ready for the next client.
Practice Proper Posture
Posture is one of the most vital ways to keep your career long and healthy. With so many different types of modalities for clients to receive, having incorrect form will end up hurting you.
In each bodywork course, we ensure our students are taught the proper way to execute each specific modality. Ease and efficiency of movements help protect massage therapists from unnecessary pain.
Implementing self-care will affect the success of your career just as much as your clients and business skills do. Having a healthy and able body allows massage therapists to take on the demanding, yet rewarding workload.
Taking these simple steps each day will help you extend your career, work pain-free and be the best healer possible.
At all three of our locations, our students are learning about not only how to provide the best healing for their clients, but also how they can provide the best healing for themselves. To learn more about starting your career path with our community, fill out our form and come by for a tour:
