Living holistically means every aspect of life is approached as a whole. What we think, do, say, eat, believe in, and our impact on others and our Earth are all reflections of how we choose to live our life. By seeing the “big picture,” we are able to realize that our minds, bodies, and souls are all interconnected.
Most of us understand this on an intuitive level. However, the fast pace of our modern lives can often cause us to disconnect.
At Healing Hands, our holistic approach to educating our students impacts their personal lives just as much as their massage careers. We believe that in order to have a successful career, every aspect of the student’s lifestyle must be addressed.
Along with wellness lessons integrated into our massage therapy courses, our elective classes offered in Kearny Mesa, Escondido and Laguna Hills provide different methods to promote a holistic lifestyle.
Here are some ways you can incorporate holistic living to improve your mind, body, and soul:
Mind
The mind is a tool that influences your overall health in powerful ways. With high stress and anxiety being so prevalent in our society, mindfulness is one of the most important methods to help you think clearly and stay grounded. Being mindful is about paying attention to your surroundings and your body and living in the moment. Mindful living can be incorporated into your daily routine through practices such as meditation, setting intentions for the day or task ahead, and expressing acceptance for any situation that arises.
Body
Holistic living creates an appreciation for the body you live in. Cultivating healthy ways of living is a habit formed from listening to one’s body and recognizing what is nourishing and what is draining. Whether it is through regular exercise at the gym, yoga or taking a run, moving your body is an essential piece to create balance within yourself. Along with being active, another important way to care for the body is through the food you eat. Give your body the proper fuel to carry you through the day with fulfilling energy.
Soul
While modern wellness is heavily focused on the physical aspects of your being, holistic living considers your soul to be just as important and impactful. Spiritual wellness can be different for each person, as it plays roles in religion, personal growth, or finding meaning in life. Having clear ideas of one’s personal values and beliefs helps connect the mind and body together. Spending time in solitude and showing compassion for others are great ways to nourish your soul.
By modeling a more holistic approach to life, students help their clients re-discover their own innate power and ability for self-healing.
