Along with a deep understanding of massage therapy, one of our main focuses for our students is providing them with opportunities to learn unique modalities that interest them as individuals. In our Massage Therapy Program and Holistic Health Practitioner Program, students are required to take elective courses along with their required massage therapy courses.
We offer over 1,800 hours of foundational classes and elective courses in Laguna Hills, Escondido, and Kearny Mesa to give our students the freedom to specialize in the styles, techniques, and modalities that best fit their individual interests. Some students focus on healing processes that date back hundreds of years, while others concentrate on cutting-edge science.
These additional courses allow you to pursue your particular area of interest and give you an integrated array of health tools and practices as you pursue your career.
Here are a few of our elective courses that are available during our Spring Session:
Hydrotherapy
Water has provided life for everything on this planet. In this course, students will discover the power of water – both from the land and from the sea – and the vital role it plays in the body’s healing process. Students will be discussing the principles and practices of hydrotherapy (from antiquity to modern day) in achieving a state of health, vitality, and well-being in the body and the mind alike. A variety of techniques will be presented that can be used in multiple types of healing settings. This class consists of lecture, presentation, and hands-on practices that include: contract hand baths with additives, cryotherapy, ice massage, herbal hot compress, and fomentation.
Joint Mobilization
The Joint Mobilization and Stretch class is an interactive massage modality course. The goal of this class is to improve flexibility, enhance the grace of movement, improve range of motion and facilitate balance in the musculoskeletal system of the body. This course is a dynamic combination of passive joint movement and deep, powerful assisted passive stretches – focusing on both the individual parts of the body and the body as a whole. Students will learn to combine stretches and rhythmic massage techniques with gentle joint mobilization as an integrated, adaptive and assisted flow.
Homeopathic 1st Aid
Homeopathy, or homeopathic medicine, is a philosophy and practice based on the idea that the body has the ability to heal itself. Founded in Germany during the late 1700s, Homeopathy has been widely practiced throughout India and Europe for centuries. This course educates the student about safe and effective homeopathic remedies they can use to deal with the shock and trauma of many medical emergencies. They’ll learn how to stimulate their client’s innate healing abilities, and develop a tool-kit of homeopathic remedies to address emergencies that require first aid. Homeopathy is an information-packed course that will enable the student to treat nosebleeds, bruises, cuts, abrasions, sports injuries, muscle aches, cramps, fevers, insect bites, sunburn, food poisoning and other common medical emergencies.
Breathwork and Conscious Breathing
This course will introduce different styles of Breathwork and brief discussions of the chakra system and meditation. Once integrated into their well-being, this course will include a variety of breathing techniques and exercises that students can use to complement their massage practice. The chakra system and meditation will be briefly discussed in a traditional and non-traditional sense that allows the student to decide for themselves how to fit them into their healing practice.
Building on the 600-hour Massage Therapy Training Program, students in the Holistic Health Practitioner Program choose from a diverse course list, which is designed to maximize your opportunity for customized training based on your unique interests. Graduates finish the program with 1,000 hours of skill-building and hands-on experience.
These classes can also be taken as à la carte electives or for continuing education coursework.
