“Ayurveda,” which means “Science of Life” in Sanskrit, is an ancient self-care healing system developed over 5,000 years ago. It is considered the “mother of all healing,” and is a beautiful art of balancing the mind and body through the medium of oil massage. Here are three main benefits you can provide someone by performing this peaceful practice:
Decrease Stress
Your body was not meant to undergo stress each day – especially stress that doesn’t receive a proper release, such as exercising – and eventually, it begins to show physical and mental signs of this. From muscle pains and headaches to poor digestion and low energy levels, stress can lead to a multitude of health problems. However, ayurvedic massage therapy can help keep these problems at bay by relaxing your mind and body. Naturally, this leads to decreasing your blood pressure and heart rate, which results in lowering your risk of heart disease and strokes.
Promotes Better Sleep
This benefit is derived from ayurvedic’s ability to decrease your stress, as mentioned above. Stress can cause you to be extremely restless and prevent you from getting the proper amount of sleep you need to keep your mind and body healthy. Unfortunately, this can lead to insominia and depression if it’s not taken care of. With ayurvedic massage therapy, your mind will be able to think clearer and rest easier, which will enable your body to heal and restore itself.
Relieves Chronic Back Pain And Migraines
The gentle pressure that’s provided through ayurvedic massage can have a powerful effect beyond the physical touch. When it’s applied to the face, it will increase the blood circulation in that particular area which can relieve the pain that’s felt from a migraine. It can also help relieve chronic back pain by increasing blood flow and relieving the tension.
Our ayurvedic massage course is an introduction to Ayurvedic principles and practices. It includes an overall view of Ayurvedic healing and Panchakarma including hands-on instruction of three different bodywork modalities based on the Ayurvedic constitutional types or Doshas: Abhyanga, Vishesh, and Udvartana massages. Students will become familiar with the three Doshas (distinct combinations of physical, mental and emotional characteristics: Vata, Pitta and Kapha ), three qualities of mind ( Sattva, Rajas and Tamas ), and three qualities of energy ( Prana, Tejas and Ojas ). In addition, they will learn hands-on the “marmas” (pressure points ), Shirodhara ( “thread of oil on the forehead” ) and Indian Head Massage. These practices restore balance, boost immunity and enhance the quality and duration of life for themselves and their clients.
