On Sunday, October 16th students from Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HH) participated in a life-transforming graduation day for 150 men who successfully completed the Career Success Institute workshops sponsored by Working Wardrobes” said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director for HH.  “Please join me in thanking Lisa Hand and John Almanza for the generous donation of their time and professional representation of our school while providing nurturing, therapeutic massage to event attendees”, she added.

The mission of Working Wardrobes is to help individuals gain meaningful employment and achieve financial self-sufficiency. Toward that end, they serve two major populations: Men housed in transitional living and recovery programs in Orange County, South Bay & Los Angeles; and Military Reservists, Veterans and male Military Spouses through a partnership with the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base and their own VetNet program.

The Men’s Career Success program gives unemployed individuals a major boost to their self-esteem, and new attire so they may make a good first impression in an interview.  They also provide curriculum to equip reservists and military spouses with the tools and skills needed to find sustainable work and introduce employers that understand the changing state of their lives as a result of military deployment.

The graduation event, which was held at Los Amigos High school in Fountain Valley, provided an opportunity for these men to have their outsides match their newly empowered selves with a variety of complimentary services.  These included: a motivational seminar, haircuts, manicures, therapeutic massage, wardrobe selection, plus a career fair complete with employer panel. HH’s female volunteer, Ms. Lisa Hand is a professional writer who made the decision to pursue a career in Massage Therapy after attending a Spiritual Retreat in August of 2016.  Currently a part-time student enrolled in HH’s 500-hour Massage Therapy Program, Lisa anticipates graduation and licensure in January of 2017 just one year after she began her educational program.  Her current area of interest is Medical Massage, where she works as part of a health care team for referring medical providers.  As a Medical Massage Therapist, Lisa will provide therapeutic massage to patients in a medical setting with the goal of reducing their pain, easing their emotional stress, and reducing their need for medications.

Event volunteer, John Almanza, is a self-proclaimed sports enthusiast who enrolled in HH’s 1000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program so he could facilitate health and healing for others.  Currently working as a recreational leader for Parks & Recreational Sports Programs in San Clemente, John enjoys facilitating healthy sports activities for children and teens but wants to do more.  With over 80 massage and related Holistic Health Classes to choose from, upon graduation John will be able to facilitate health and wellness for more than just children and teens.  As a Holistic Health Practitioner with 1000 hours of training, John will be able to customize each massage with the therapeutic techniques best suited to address his client’s unique needs.
