“Today, many of the acute and chronic conditions we experience are stress-related,” said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director for HH.   “Both HH Student Clinics attract individuals who understand the benefits of massage but choose not to commit to a Massage Clinic membership.  These massage clients provide the invaluable opportunity for students to work on a variety of body types and physical conditions, and receive honest feedback.  All Student Clinic clients complete a brief survey that evaluates the student’s professional performance and their over-all massage experience.  Thanks to our knowledgeable and passionate Faculty, those client surveys are predominantly positive – making our Student Clinic a win/win for students and our community”, she added.

All Student Clinic massages are offered Mondays through Fridays, by HH students who are enrolled in the advanced, 1,000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program.  All students who work at the Clinic have clocked hundreds of hours of Massage training and are adept at Circulatory Massage techniques such as gliding (Effleurage), kneading (Petrissage), and cross-fiber (Fanning). Other may have experience with multiple modalities and advanced therapies such as Acupressure, Neuro-muscular or Trigger Point Therapies.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Massage Therapy is a billion dollar industry and still growing.  Its popularity is due to a growing body of evidence that reveals its many therapeutic benefits.  In addition to enhancing the cardiovascular and immune systems, Massage triggers your body’s natural antidepressant, Serotonin which reduces depressive symptoms and pain.  It also lowers stress hormones, increases mental clarity, and enhances one’s sense of well-being.  To learn more about the study of massage and its application in medicine and health, go online to: www.miami.edu/touch-research .
