The “Holistic” concept in health-care means taking all aspects of a person’s life and circumstances into account when assessing their overall health and well-being. These include life-style and the physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of a person’s life. Holistic Nutrition is an essential part of any Holistic health program. Food not only provides the energy we need to move our bodies, it provides the nutrients essential to building and repairing bone, muscle, fat, blood and all other body tissues. The goal of Holistic Nutrition is to give the body what it needs to recover from injury or illness while also building a strong foundation for long-term optimal health.
At Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HHSHH), our Faculty understands the importance of good nutrition and offers several classes on the topic. These include: Health & Dietary Practices, that teaches how dietary practices can increase or diminish an individual’s nutrition and health. Another popular class is Wholistic Nutrition, which examines how food affects the mind/body connection, and reviews the basic nutrients in food such as: carbohydrates, vitamins, enzymes, fatty acids, amino acids. And finally, a student favorite called Nutritional Super-foods. In this class the instructor introduces students to a variety of Super-food groups and explores how these foods fight disease and promote wellness.
All our nutrition classes touch on food trends and recent research; such as how combining certain super-foods can unlock more nutritional value than eating those foods alone. Next blog will have a few examples of recipes that combine these super-food duos to give you more nutritional bang for each bite!
